Polyaspartic floor coatings are a durable and stylish way to protect concrete surfaces in garages, patios, and driveways. They offer quick installation, long-lasting results, and an ideal solution for high-traffic areas. If you’re considering upgrading your concrete floors, understanding the coating process can help you make an informed decision. This guide covers the benefits and the process of applying polyaspartic floor coatings.
What Is Polyaspartic Floor Coating?
Polyaspartic floor coating is a cutting-edge solution for concrete protection that offers superior performance and durability. Derived from polyurea, it bonds directly to concrete, creating a seamless, nonporous surface that resists temperature changes, moisture, and wear. Unlike epoxy or polyurethane, polyaspartic coatings cure quickly, provide long-lasting adhesion, and transform ordinary concrete into a functional, attractive floor that can withstand extreme conditions for decades.
Understanding the Benefits for Homeowners
Homeowners who choose polyaspartic floor coatings enjoy numerous advantages that extend far beyond basic floor protection. These coatings provide exceptional value through their durability, aesthetic flexibility, and low maintenance requirements. The following benefits explain why polyaspartic coatings have become the preferred choice for discerning homeowners.
Durable and Long-Lasting
Polyaspartic floor coatings deliver exceptional resistance to wear, abrasions, and impacts. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas, such as garages, patios, and workshops. Moreover, the molecular structure of polyaspartic materials creates a surface that gets stronger over time.
Highly Resistant to Stains and Chemicals
These coatings resist oil, grease, chemicals, and other common stains, making them particularly beneficial for garages and workshops. Homeowners can maintain a clean, polished look without worrying about spills causing permanent damage. Hot tire pickup isn’t a concern, and battery acid and automotive fluids wipe away without leaving stains on the surface.
Fast Curing and Installation
Unlike many other floor coatings, polyaspartic solutions dry and cure quickly, allowing for faster installation and minimal disruption to your daily routines. This is ideal for homeowners seeking efficient and hassle-free upgrades to their spaces. Most installations are complete in a single day. In fact, you will probably be able to walk on your new floor within hours of application.
UV Stability for Outdoor Areas
Arizona’s intense sun poses no threat to properly applied polyaspartic coatings. This is because these coatings maintain UV stability, meaning they won’t yellow or fade over time when exposed to sunlight. Therefore, they are an excellent choice for patios or other outdoor areas.
Customizable Appearance
Homeowners can choose from a wide range of colors, finishes, and textures to match their style and needs. Whether you prefer a monochrome look or a decorative chip finish, polyaspartic coatings can match and elevate the aesthetic of your space. The customization options allow you to create a unique floor that complements your home’s overall design scheme.

The Six-Step Application Process
At Next Level Coatings, we have developed a professional polyaspartic coating application that follows a precise six-step process to guarantee optimal adhesion, durability, and appearance. Each step builds upon the previous one to create a foundation for long-lasting performance.
Grind
The application process begins with diamond grinding every concrete floor, whether new or old. At Next Level Coatings, we use a 1000-pound machine to ensure sufficient weight for proper grinding, supplemented by a hand grinder for edging the entire floor. Each floor undergoes diamond testing to guarantee the appropriate bond diamond selection. These machines connect to three dustless vacuums to maintain cleanliness throughout the process.
This grinding step creates the proper surface profile necessary for optimal coating adhesion. It removes surface contaminants, opens the pores in the concrete, and creates microscopic valleys that enable the coating to bond mechanically with the substrate.
Repair
Next, the floor undergoes thorough vacuuming using dustless vacuum systems, clearing out expansion joints and saw cuts. Following this, we use a dry mop to loosen any remaining debris, leading to a meticulous blow-out that leaves a pristine foundation.
The final step in preparation is patching or repairing any imperfections in the concrete, such as cracks, chips, or holes, with a flexible 2-part epoxy patch. This repair work results in a smooth, even surface that prevents future coating failures.
Coat
We apply a self-priming, pre-pigmented, UV-stable, fast-cure polyaspartic base coat using a squeegee and roller. This base coat receives meticulous measuring and rolling in all directions to achieve uniform coverage. The base coat penetrates deeply into the concrete pores, providing the foundation for subsequent layers.
The application technique during this step determines the overall quality and longevity of the finished floor. Professional installers like us understand the precise timing and environmental conditions necessary for optimal results.
Flake
Next, the floor receives a hand-flaked treatment that provides full broadcast chip coverage for comprehensive protection. This decorative element not only enhances the floor’s appearance but also provides additional texture and slip resistance.
Optionally, stem walls receive meticulous treatment beforehand to ensure straight lines for an impeccable finish. The flaking process requires skill and experience to achieve even distribution and proper coverage density.
Scrape
After the polyaspartic base coat has fully cured, we remove all excess flake and meticulously scrape the floor in all directions to get a smooth finish. This step creates a uniform surface that will accept the final clear coat properly.
Edges, joints, and stem walls undergo hand sanding to eliminate any standing flakes. Then, the floor gets a final dustless vacuuming to remove any remaining debris and flake before receiving its polyaspartic clear coat.
Seal
Our team then applies the UV-stable, slow-cure polyaspartic clear coat, meticulously measuring and dispersing it with a squeegee and roller in all directions to achieve a flawless spread. Optional non-slip additives can be incorporated at this stage if desired for additional safety.
This process results in the Next Level finish. While the exact thickness of the clear coat remains proprietary, its robust application provides an unbeatable shine and effortless maintenance during cleaning and care of your floor.
